At Goodwill San Francisco Bay, your donations and purchases power our mission to create pathways to opportunity through programs like our Class A & Class B Permitting course and our TDL Pre-Apprenticeship. These programs equip job seekers with the certifications, skills, and confidence they need to step into stable, in-demand careers. And at the heart of these initiatives is Traevon, the Apprenticeship Coordinator whose determination and personal connection to Goodwill helps program participants thrive.
From a young age, Traevon’s curiosity for technology was clear. He recalls dismantling and repairing PlayStation 2 consoles, finding joy in solving problems and bringing damaged systems back to life. This passion eventually led him to participate in an IT Pre-Apprenticeship, one of the many advanced training programs that Goodwill SF Bay offers, often through partnerships with premier Bay Area partner organizations. And it is this IT Pre-Apprenticeship program that he credits with giving him a foundation during a challenging period in his life. “There were times I was homeless, trying to get on my feet, but Goodwill was there,” he shared. “The support I received, from staff like Rachel and Patrick, gave me a reason to keep striving.”
Traevon’s journey through the IT Pre-Apprenticeship not only reignited his sense of purpose but also opened doors for him to give back. He began mentoring others, using his own experiences to connect with participants. When an opportunity arose to apply for a coordinator position at Goodwill SF Bay, Traevon didn’t hesitate. His hard work and commitment to building a better future for himself and others made him the perfect fit.
Now, as an instructor for both the Class A & Class B Permitting Program and the TDL Pre-Apprenticeship, Traevon’s guidance goes beyond technical knowledge. He offers mentorship, encouragement, and a personal touch that makes every participant feel seen and valued. His approach is holistic, helping students navigate not only the coursework but also the barriers they face in their personal lives.
“These programs are more than just certifications,” Traevon explained. “They’re a chance for people to rewrite their stories, to build a better future for themselves and their families. And I get to be a part of that transformation.”
The Class A & Class B Permitting Program equips participants with the knowledge and preparation required to pass California’s Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) exam. It’s a gateway to careers in transportation, logistics, and construction–industries that provide family-sustaining wages. Similarly, the TDL Pre-Apprenticeship offers CPR/First Aid training, forklift certification, and OSHA 10 training and compliance, preparing participants for critical roles in warehouse and logistics operations.
Traevon sees these programs as bridges, both for participants and himself. “This work is about building up others while continuing to grow myself,” he said. “Every time I see a student pass their exam or land a job, I’m reminded why I do this.”
His story is a testament to the power of opportunity and support. For Traevon, Goodwill’s programs are not just about job readiness—they’re about creating lasting change in the lives of individuals and communities. “We all make mistakes, but it’s about how we respond,” he said.
Through his work, Traevon ensures that each participant in Goodwill’s programs has the tools they need to succeed, whether they’re starting over, building skills, or pursuing a dream. And just as Goodwill has been a bridge for him, Traevon is now a bridge for others, guiding them toward brighter futures.
