About Giving to Goodwill

Every dollar invested through Goodwill works triple duty: First, we help individuals develop the skills and experience needed for a sustainable livelihood. Second, we help the Bay Area by strengthening it with people invested in their futures and the futures of their families. Third, we help the environment by diverting goods from landfills. A nice perk about giving to Goodwill — you feel good as you grow the good for others.

Contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations ensure that we do not turn away anyone with the determination and ability to work.

Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Financial donations are tax-deductible.

Tribute Gifts

You may wish to enhance the value of your contribution by making a tribute gift to honor or remember someone special. To make a tribute gift, simply include the following information with your mailed check:

  • Whether the gift is an honorary or memorial gift
  • Name of the person you wish to recognize or remember
  • Name and address of the person to whom you would like an acknowledgement letter mailed. (We will not include the amount of your gift in the acknowledgement.)

You may choose to make a bequest gift through your will to Goodwill. Usually, a donor will set aside a certain dollar amount or certain percentage of the estate, or a certain asset left over after the family has been provided for. Bequests can be for general purposes or designated for a specific use. Your attorney will help you word your bequest so its intended purpose is clear.

Please consult your attorney and financial planner as to which vehicle best fits your financial circumstances as well as your tax and charitable objectives. Other planned giving options include stocks, appreciated securities and bequests.
